1949

March 1,
Local PTA contacts school district about the possibility of having a four year high school in Dragerton.  School Board reluctant to do so fearing that Dragerton would be a ghost town in 10 years

April 12:
A meeting was held in the auditorium with 350 people in attendance.  The purpose of the  meeting was to discuss the pros and cons of incorporation.   The towns' people were informed that a petition would be required with at least 100 signatures requesting incorporation.  If that took place then the next step was for the town people to select a date for the vote to take place.  Several obstacles stood in the way before the vote could take place.  the process required that the position of mayor, two and four year councilmen, treasurer, and recorder be filled.  Nomination had to be received by the committee.

Among those who filed for the position of mayor were Fred Johnson, Andy W. Anderson, Craig Justesen and Ray Brown.  For 4 year councilmen: Oscar Pehrson, Julius Rossman, Conway Oveson, Gene Presette and Lou Buffmire.

2 year councilmen:  Leslie Tomlinson, Richard Kuhn, Bill Dance, Fred Menotti, Ed Mckinley, Marvin Garden, Hub Peterson, and Floyd Warren.

Treasurer:  Glen Bullock, Henrietta Gantz, Glen Williams and Russell Fryer.

Recorder:  Jack Clifford, Alvena Banks, Varner Stoddard Billy Jean Poglajen, and Ollie Lindsey.

May 4
Nomination took place and a date set for the vote to take place.  It was decided that it would take place in late July when all the miners had returned from their summer vacations.  The main issue for those that were pushing incorporation was the distribution of funds from the collection of taxes form the liquor commission and from the state tax commission.  It was felt that revenue was being lost because Dragerton was not incorporated.  Also among the discussion was the fact that the people would be required to pay for water, sewage, trash pick-up, and police protection.  It was made known before the vote that a twenty dollar a year fee would be imposed.  Even if the initiative was voted down  those families who still paid rent would have a fee imposed on them.

July 12
The vote was held and the referendum was vote down by the residents of Dragerton.  Had the referendum passed Fred Johnson was elected mayor.  4 year councilmen elected Lou Buffmire and Eugene Pressett.  2 Year Councilmen elected: Fred Menotti, Floyd Warren, and Bill Dance.  Billy Jean Poglajen was elected recorder and Henrietta Gantz as treasurer.
